Rex Nelson of Little Rock will return for his 28th season of play-by-play duties. Nelson is one of the nation's longest-serving college play-by-play announcers for one school. He will once more be joined in the booth by Dr. Jeff Root, who has provided analysis for more than a quarter of a century. Richard Atkinson of Arkadelphia will be part of the broadcast team for a second season, providing scores from other games across the country, statistics and additional analysis. Chris Babb will contribute to the pregame and postgame shows, and Ouachita Athletic Director David Sharp will be part of the broadcasts of the five road games.
The stadium producer of the Ouachita Football Network is Patrick Thomas of El Dorado. The executive producer is Sandy Sanford of El Dorado.
"Our game day production equals or surpasses what many NCAA Division I schools put on the air," Nelson said. "We have a well-produced pregame show that runs for one hour and a postgame show that runs for one hour. We take a great deal of pride in being able to bring the excitement of Gulf South Conference football to people in this part of the country. We thank Noalmark Broadcasting, Bunyard Broadcasting, our sponsors and our affiliate stations for making it possible for college football fans in four states to hear Ouachita games."
Nelson and Root grew up together within blocks of A.U. Williams Field in Arkadelphia. They have worked together on the Ouachita broadcasts since they were students at Ouachita.
"We have the finest radio network for any Division II school in the country," Sharp said. "We take great pride in that. We know that the Gulf South Conference is the toughest Division II football conference in America. We want our broadcasts to match the quality of play on the field."
Each network broadcast begins one hour prior to kickoff with the Baptist Health Tiger Countdown to Kickoff. The program includes an extended visit with Ouachita Head Coach Todd Knight, an interview with the opposing coach, a Gulf South Conference report, highlights from the previous week's game and interviews with the Ouachita assistant coaches.
The Hot Springs Halftime Report features live interviews, the "This Week at Ouachita" feature, scores from across the country and halftime statistics.
The Southern Bancorp Tiger Recap features postgame comments from the head coach, final statistics, game highlights, scores from across the country and the naming of offensive and defensive players of the game.
Ouachita opens the season at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, against Texas College in Tyler, Texas. The broadcast will begin at 5 p.m.
