No matter how much they prepare, lots of new parents make some common mistakes when caring for a new baby.

Newborn care specialist Lisa Stipe came by our studio to share advice and tips. New mom Marci Herndon and her son Ashton joined in on the segment as well.

Lisa travels all over the country helping new parents manage their new baby to their best ability.

She showed how to swaddle a child, and explained the importance of it. It's important to wrap the baby with their arms to the side, and very tight.

Here are Lisa's list of some of the Top Mistakes parents make, please note: This list is geared towards parents for whom good sleep habits and a predictable schedule are important

TOP 5 MISTAKES THAT FIRST TIME PARENTS MAKE: 1. Not swaddling

2. Not putting baby on a feeding/sleeping schedule 3. Using sleep props

4. Allowing the baby to sleep anywhere except their own crib

5. Not recognizing the signs of reflux and writing it off as "colic"
