Bret Curry with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas has plenty of tips on how to achieve a comfortable home without breaking the bank.

When considering places in your home where heat might be getting in, don't forget to look up. A poorly insulated attic can cause your electric bill to soar.

Summer savings, according to Curry, is a science. To determine how much air conditioning is required for the home, you must take a look at everything external and everything inside. The first thing to do is change the filter on your a/c unit.

Another energy-saving idea is to seal the windows and doors so the warm air outside won't be able to seep into the house. Also, you can save money by bumping your thermostat up a few degrees (the 70s or higher) and then turning on your ceiling fans. Curry reminds everyone that ceiling fans actually give off heat so when you're not in the house, remember to turn them off! Ceiling fans are only useful if someone is in the room.

Another tip is to replace the old lights in your house with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. It's a simple change that can save you big bucks.
