"There's nothing special that I've done other than to approach everyday with good decision making," she told 5NEWS from behind her desk in a tastefully decorated office.

McReynolds' humility is surprising for a woman who's just been named the chief executive officer of a major U.S. trucking company. McReynolds says she didn't set out to take over the role of CEO.

"My philosophy has been to look at what we need to do and go about doing that I've never really focused on any individual positions," she said.

She began her career in public accounting before coming to Arkansas Best Corporation in 1997. McReynolds worked her way through the ranks to become chief financial officer. Her boss and soon to be predecessor, CEO Bob Davidson gave her the highest compliment saying she possesses intelligence, integrity, energy, vision, and leadership abilities.

One of the things that makes me feel good about leaving this role is the fact that she will be taking over," Davidson explained.

He and his wife plan to travel, the first of many activities they want to do together. Davidson jokingly said they want to climb the pyramids while they still can.

McReynolds is quick to share her success with the man she says encouraged her career. Her husband Lance is the director of education and youth at First Christian Church, and while she admits their careers are very different--how they approach them isn't.

"We have the common goals of kind of our working life our faith and our family and obviously you can have different ways you spend your time, but you know we have those things in common," she said.
