He lost. Stephen Green didn't win, but in the end, all of America won.
The Encouragement Foundation staged 7 Days Across America. They met and told the stories of 22 teenagers in the country making a difference. One of those was Stephen Green of Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock. For being "discovered," Stephen was given an all expense paid trip to New York City, where he was in the running for a $10,000 scholarship. He was one of several nominees, and while he didn't win the overall prize, he was able to garner more votes on the internet than anyone.
The winners were 12 girls from Long Island. They saw an Oprah episode on the plight of children from Ghana enslaved by the fishing industry in Africa.. The girls banded together and formed a group called "One Is Greater Than None." They made and sold jewelry so they could buy children out of bondage. Their efforts received worldwide publicity and they have since raised thousands.
They now turn their attention to rural health care in the United States and continue to tirelessly raise money. They are so dedicated, that the scholarship money they won in New York, was instead diverted to rural health clinics.
Stephen Green continues his oddyssey too. Sunday, beginning at 3pm in front of the State Capitol, he stages his rally he's calling "Enough Is Enough." It's an exercise in taking a stand against teen violence.
One great Hero Central Story leads to another.
