ASU athletic officials declined to comment on the arrest of Paul Stephens, 22, except to say that "appropriate action" would be taken as more information becomes available.

Stephens was arrested early Saturday morning. A police report said he was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The report said Antonio Williams told police he shot an intruder trying to break into Williams' apartment.

ASU sports information director Jerry Scott said Stephens, a senior, was listed as one of ASU's starting cornerbacks at the end of spring practice.

A transfer from Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, Stephens was credited with 10 tackles and one interception last season.
