Lane Named New Benton Police Chief

Through a press released issued Tuesday morning, Benton Mayor Rick Holland announced Kirk Lane as the new police chief.

Lane replaces Gary Sipes as Benton's chief.

"Our city is very fortunate to have such an outstanding individual as our new chief of police," Holland said in the news release. "I look forward to introducing Chief Lane to the citizens of our great city."

According to the release, Lane has been a captain with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Investigation and Narcotics Division since 1999. He has served on the department's SWAT team, Honor Guard and Hostage Negotiation Unit.

"This is a great opportunity for [Lane] to lead our department on the path of proactive, innovative and accountable police service," Holland said.

Lane will assume the duties of police chief Monday, Jan. 5.
