What started as an aimless trip along the information super highway Monday turned into an alarming situation for Rasul Griffin.
?Basically, I just typed my name,? he said. ?My name came up. My kids? names came up. All my personal information was there.?
Griffin found all of his information on documents found on the Pulaski Circuit/County Clerk Web site. Rasul's personal information, including a Social Security number and a date of birth, clearly visible and accessible to the public.
?These are things that people can take and use for their own personal gain,? he said. ?For that information to be out there without me knowing is a violation of my rights.?
Pulaski Circuit/County Clerk Pat O?Brien says the documents first began appearing on the site to assist the legal community.
?We don't want any confidential information being out there in the public,? he said.
But according to the Arkansas Supreme Court, the clerk's office is not required to remove confidential information, like bank account numbers or vehicle VIN numbers, from court documents.
O?Brien says his office will remove that information, should the individual make the request.
?If we catch it, we'll certainly take if off there,? he said. ?But with more than 100,000 filings going through in a year, we're not likely to catch that initially.?
Griffin made the call to the clerk's office late Monday afternoon. He said the office was cooperative, saying they would have the information removed as soon as possible.
If you find that you have private information posted on the Pulaski Clerk's site, you're asked to call (501) 340-8500.
