Thursday night, Little Rock police were on the hunt for a robber who cuts the power to homes before striking. "I woke up a little after one and realized the electricity was off," said 75-year-old Kathryn Gilstrap as she began recalling the night an intruder cut the power to her home and attacked her husband and her.
Gilstrap went to check on the lights when an robber came through the back door.
"He shoves me and drags me and he knocks me down and kicks me," said Gilstrap.
Her husband Bill heard the commotion.
"My husband tried to come to my aid, and he (the suspect) knocks him down and my husband is crippled. He walks with a cane and he told us he wanted our money," explains Gilstrap. "My husband said we don't have much money and he said 'well get it.'"
Mr. Gilstrap gave the robber $40 and his wallet. The intruder then forced the couple onto the floor.
"So I hit the floor face down and I lay there waiting for him to kill us," she says. "I thought he would use the tree loppers to finish us off and I just laid there and prayed."
Her husband felt helpless.
"He has said how frustrated he was because this guy is kicking and hitting me and Bill can't do anything about it,? she said.
?Totally helpless. I went to her defense and he just flipped me like a grain of sand,? he said. ?It's very difficult. We're just thankful and grateful he decided to leave us alone."
The Gilstraps are in the process of installing a security system. Police say the suspect has hit two homes in the past week and a half. They warn, if your electricity goes off, take a quick look at neighboring houses and call 911 immediately if you're the only one without lights.
