Candidates in a hotly contested Little Rock School Board race appear poised for a runoff election. Just a handful of votes separate incumbent Micheal Daugherty and challenger Anna Swaim. Unofficial results from the Pulaski County Election Commission show that Daugherty received 808 votes, or about 45 percent. Swaim received 806 votes, also about 44 percent. Michael Nellums received 185 votes, and Drew Pritt received eight votes. To win the race, a candidate must receive 50 percent of the vote. If the votes are certified, Swaim and Daugherty would face off in an October 9 runoff election. The Little Rock School Board has been sharply divided this year on racial lines. The board's four black members, including Daugherty, voted to fire Superintendent Roy Brooks, who also is black. The board's three white members supported Brooks. The balance of power could shift if Swaim, who is white, is elected. To view results in Pulaski County click on the link under the picture.
