A Saline County man was sentenced Thursday for animal cruelty. Vernon Wilson was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $500 in restitution to the Pulaski County Humane Society.
Authorities were contacted after two dogs, two cats, a turtle and a tank full of fish were found abandoned in 100-degree heat without food or water at a home with no power. Wilson had apparently been evicted from the home and left the animals behind.
The two dogs, which were clearly malnourished and suffering from dehydration, were found chained outside while the remaining pets were left inside the stifling home.
