An effort to designate Arkansas' first official butterfly won't fly in for a vote just yet.

Rep. John Paul Wells, a Paris Democrat, says he plans to amend his proposal that would designate the Diana Fritillary as the State butterfly and send the measure back through committee.

The bill has already won committee approval. But Wells says he plans to amend the bill so that it requires no printing costs once the designation is made.

Wells says the designation would help tourism at Mount Magazine State Park and in nearby Paris, which has an annual butterfly festival.
