A Cabot husband and wife have been arrested for allegedly defrauding customers through their motorcycle business. The couple has a showroom in Cabot but they also do business over the Internet and that's where they're accused of being dishonest.
Police say there are more than 100 victims that investigators are busy taking statements from. None of them lives in Arkansas because it was all done through eBay or other websites.
Edward Williams, 54, and his wife, Connie Williams, 50, have been arrested and charged with felony theft. They own a business called Tec Boys and sell motorcycles, scooters and four-wheelers. They do business out of a showroom on 2nd Street but also do sales on the Internet.
Their alleged victims come from 17 different states. A Florida man, Mike Powell, claims he paid them more than $2,000 for two scooters that he never received.
Powell says, "About a month went by and I started contacting them and they kept telling me they were on their way; they weren?t' of course. Then, they went so far as to say the owner, Edward Williams, had passed away." Cabot detectives have compiled a file on the couple that dates back to February. A search warrant allowed them access to emails and purchase receipts.
Sgt. Brent Lucas says, "They went in and were able to connect a lot of the complaints they received to actual documents at the business to put a paper trail that they were legitimate complaints that they had done business with them. So that put more merit to the complaints."
There is a list several pages long with alleged victims? names, all claiming they gave hundreds or thousands of dollars to the Williams. The couple is out on bond. Our cameras caught them Wednesday entering their business, which is still open.
Powell says, "He has a really nice website. I thought the gentleman was legit, but apparently not. I'm just gonna have to let the law runs its course and hope that I can recoup some of my money."
The lieutenant on the case tells Today?s THV the city has started the process to close the business but it's important to remember the couple has not been found guilty of anything.
Attorneys general from several other states are also investigating. Attempts to contact the Williams' were not successful. They'll both appear in court on Nov. 13.
