It's right on Main Street in Russellville, a little place they call the Electric Moo. Inside they sell CDs, T-shirts, incense and items that have caused them to be classified as a sexually oriented business.
Officer Steve Barker says, ?It calls them specified anatomical areas is the type of devices.?
In March, the city amended their ordinance to include any item designed for sexual gratification. In June, the Electric Moo was cited by police and the Gothic Gateway received a handful of citations.
Attorneys for the Electric Moo filed a response to the charges saying they should not be in the same category as a strip bar or an adult theater. Attorneys claim under the current ordinance, even Wal-Mart would be a sexually oriented business because they sell condoms and push up bras.
?I still haven't got my trailer unloaded yet,? says Jim Bailey. He sells pumpkins on his property right across the street from the Electric Moo. He says he's in favor of the city's move against sexually oriented businesses.
Bailey says, ?I'm all for the city doing that. I'm completely against that sort of thing. It's not right, it's not good values. It's not family oriented or anything like that.?
Police say the businesses have been cited because they are within 1000 feet of residential homes or parks.
Steve Barker of the Russellville Police Department says, ?I think probably if you polled the citizens that would be the case. We're pretty conservative here and I think the City Council reflected the wishes of the majority of citizens when they beefed up the amendment in March.?
The owners of both businesses pleaded not guilty to charges of displaying obscene material.
