The American Animal Hospital Assocation released a survey last year stating that 40,000 animals die every year due to lack of first aid because fire trucks weren't equipped to handle life-saving oxygen for smoke inhalation for pets.
Across the county, little oxygen masks for pets are becoming standard equipment for firefighters. Hoping to save cats, dogs and other pets caught in house fires, animal advocacy groups and pet-products suppliers are equipping departments all over the United States with them.
The cone-shaped plastic masks, which come in three sizes and fit snugly on snouts, can resuscitate animals suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Conway fire department has twenty fire trucks and already Doctor Aron Tallent of Conway Animal Clinic has raised enough money to buy twelve oxygen masks. His goal is to outfit all twenty trucks with one mask.
If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can stop by the Conway Animal Clinic, contribute online or mail your donation to 1320 E. Oak Street, Conway, AR 72032. Any size donation will be greatly appreciated.
A set of masks for each truck will cost $75, this includes small, medium and large size masks.
