
County Attorney George Butler says the first effort to sell the 1969 Cessna was dropped because the only bid over the $50,000 minimum came after bidding ended. The county also failed to advertise the sale in a local newspaper as required by state law.
The current auction has been advertised and the bidding will begin at 1 p.m. Monday.
Chief Deputy Jay Cantrell says the county acquired the plane in 2003 to transport prisoners but has since bought a smaller and more economical plane.
