Holiday shopping is in full swing with the focus shifting from Black Friday to Cyber Monday. A record 96 million online shoppers are expected to top the 85 million visitors during last year's Cyber Monday.

The National Retail Federation reports this year traffic increased, but sales were down per shopper by 7.9 percent that is about $20 off from last year.

The bright side is there is still a long way to go and shoppers are expected to look for big deals on the web.

You may have been one of the eager shoppers the day after Thanksgiving looking for unbeatable deals, but hot on the heels of Black Friday retailers want you to focus to Cyber Monday.

Elizabeth Bowles says, "As more and more shoppers are going online retailers realize they need to leverage the internet more and also to expand the shopping season."

President of Aristotle, a national internet and consulting firm, Elizabeth Bowles says more and more retailers are rolling out the online only deals to keep you shopping with a click of a mouse.

In fact E-Commerce has grown 21 percent in the last year compared to a 5 percent hike for traditional sales.

Bowles says, "There are pretty good deals, you're going to see a lot of deals involving free shipping. There will be specials that if you're buying online you can get them, but if you go to the store you can't."

But Bowles says beware of sites you're not familiar with, make sure the site has a 'lock' icon to ensure security, print receipts, don't sign up for online offers and don't open an email from a store; just go straight to the website.

"If you are shopping with someone you're unfamiliar with, you can do an online search of their name, you'll be able to find people who have had past experiences with them," Bowles adds.

Last year shoppers spent $850 million on Cyber Monday and Bowles says if the deals are there, it will be a growing trend. She concludes, "That $850 million is roughly double what it was the year before and we expect to see that and probably more. Although with the economy it will be interesting to watch because it may not be quite the phenomenon it has been in recent years."

Because it is Monday, 69 million people are expected to surf for deals, many from work. Bowles emphasis, most discounts will last until midnight and if you must, ask for permission to look for discounts on your break.
