It's a 23-year-old Thanksgiving tradition put on by the Airport Church of Christ in North Little Rock called Feeding the Multitudes.
The feeding just after a flood left many people in the North Little Rock community in need.
Reverend Thomas Hartaway says the giving expands each year. "It grew out of that concept and each year since we've been serving six to eight hundred and this year were prepared to serve twelve hundred people," says Hartaway.
Every year, members from the congregation come together, cooking, cleaning, packing and distributing hot meals. "With the economy like it is, some of us have lost jobs, homes, we have not been that unfortunate, so it means a lot to have a meal together," says Ginger Lee.
The meal starts at the Airport Church of Christ, but that's not where it ends. Meals are then taken and distributed throughout the Little Rock Community.
"We serve the Dixie community in North Little Rock, the Gribble community, parts of college station and the Riston area here off of Fourche Dam Pike," says Hartaway.
Area businesses and their employees are welcomed with open arms as well. "It's really great what they're doing. Every year they come over to the dealership and invite us over, they're very wonderful," says Mike Hall an area worker.
Reverend Hartaway says the giving goes beyond Thanksgiving, every Tuesday and Thursday from ten 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. hundreds of sack lunches are given out to the needy.
"This is something I love to do," Reverend Hartaway says.
The church did say those sack lunches will be postponed until after January, in order to re-stock food and materials. Church officials also say they deliver those sack lunches and have gone as far as Hot Springs to do so.
