There are 34 shopping days until Christmas. Kids are making out their wish lists and parents are gearing up for their trip to the Toy Store. But what should you know about a toy before actually making a purchase?

Every parent wants to make Christmas morning special. So we walk the aisle of the toy department looking high and low for just the right toy. And according to Doctor Carrie Brown with Arkansas Children's Hospital, there are some things to ask yourself while shopping. "Am I buying the right toy for that child, will they have fun with it, will it be something that will last a long time and will it be something that's safe?"

She suggests parents discuss and agree on what toys Santa's helper is going to deliver on Christmas morning. And if you're shopping for someone other than your own child, you might want to consult with their parents to find out if there are any guidelines that might help you make just the right purchase.

Safety of course is the main concern. Every year about this time consumer watch groups come out with their list of dangerous toys that are out there. It's a good idea to visit a website or two before you head out to the toy store.

Coming up tonight on the THV Ten O'clock Difference, Doctor Bryan Burke, with Arkansas Children's Hospital, will have more tips on selecting just the right toy for your child this Christmas.
