Rides will be free from the time the first streetcar moves out of the trolley barn at 8:20 a.m., continuing until the last car returns to the barn at midnight.
From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be entertainment at three River Rail stops. KLAL Radio personality Ugly Ed Johnson will do a radio remote broadcast from the stop at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Well-known local magician Derrick Rose will perform at the Main Street Bridge stop in front of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, and talented mimes from Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School will be at the River Market stop.
Betty Wineland, CAT executive director, said the River Rail has provided an enhancement to urban redevelopment along its 3.4-mile route while it adds to the ambience of the downtown communities. More than $500 million in development projects have occurred or are under way on the route or in close proximity in both downtown areas.
Wineland said River Rail is considered a model streetcar project by those in the industry. City and county officials from other U.S. cities visit every year to learn more about River Rail¹s beginnings and operation. A major point of interest among visitors has been the role River Rail has played in revitalization efforts.
