Lonoke County Sheriff Jim Roberson said in a news release that Jerry Luker, 39, of Lonoke, died early Sunday at University Hospital in Little Rock.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said Roberson had requested an investigation of what led to Luker's death.

County officials said last week that, on Oct. 19, Luker was taken from the jail to the hospital after he was found to be suffering from a skull injury. Roberson's chief deputy, Dean White, said Luker was apparently injured in a restroom area.

Luker was arrested earlier this month for a probation violation. His parents say he failed to pay fines after being put on probation for credit card fraud.
