
But enthusiasm for taking a detailed look into the system appears to be waning as more lawmakers say they are satisfied with changes being implemented.
A legislative committee led by Sen. Bobby Glover will travel Tuesday to the state's Tucker Unit. Glover said legislators likely will have more questions about how the 15,000 state inmates are guarded.
Glover says the prison system withheld information about problems -- ranging from high-profile escapes to an inmate's near death -- because legislators learned of them in news accounts. But Glover says Gov. Mike Beebe would have to act because the governor has power over the prisons.
