Senator Blanche Lincoln came home for a 4th of July break. She came by the THV studios and gladly talked about the initiatives the Senate considers over the next few weeks. Last Friday she talked healthcare, and tonight it was energy.
The House has passed a bill heavy on cap and trade. Senator Lincoln confessed that she's not sold on the method whereby carbon emissions are bought and sold like commodities. She also is concerned with agriculture's role in energy production. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, she will be right in the middle of the renewable energy debate and how much money the country invests.
She was asked if she faces the toughest sell of her career, because Arkansas did not support President Obama in last fall's election. She didn't think so, because she felt that Arkansans felt the need to do something.
The next three weeks will be critical. The Senate usually takes a long break in August. July stands to be active and controversial.
