
Supporters of the idea gathered signatures to put the measure on the ballot for a special vote on July 14.
Caddo Valley Mayor Alan Dillavou argued at an anti-merger rally last week that consolidating the two towns would force greater regulation of the lives of Caddo Valley residents. "We're not going to be able to pick up a hammer without a permit," he said.
But Arkadelphia City Manager Jimmy Bolt said in a prepared statement that the merger proposal raises the prospect of "a brighter future for both communities by coming together to share resources, combining services, and soliciting new industries as one, therefore providing new job opportunities."
