Authorities say 60-year-old Hancil Hartbarger II was directing traffic on East Black Oak Road near Mountain Spring Drive on Friday morning when he was struck by a car driven by 51-year-old Rusty Warford.

Hartbarger had been directing traffic while workers were cleaning out a ditch on the road.

Police say they don't expect criminal charges to be filed against Warford, but that he may face a traffic citation.

Hartbarger was taken by ambulance to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he later died. Officials say he'd worked for the county road department for 22 years.
