Mayor To Be Arraigned On Theft Charges

A south Arkansas mayor accused of stealing a municipal check and trying to spend it at a Wal-Mart is to be arraigned this week.

But Garland City Mayor Yvonne Dockery says she was merely trying to cash her payroll check. Checks issued by Garland City government must be signed by council members Tarzan Banks and Clifton Rooters and Deane White, the recorder-treasurer before they can be cashed. Dockery's check for $732.05 did not have those signatures when she tried to cash it.

Dockery is accused of felony theft and faces a Tuesday arraignment in Miller County Circuit Court.
