Ray Wiley, a spokesman for IC's parent company, Navistar in Warrenville, Illinois, says he won't know for a couple of days how many people will be out of a job, but it will happen by the end of March.
Also by the end of the month, IC will be producing only 8 buses per day. Wiley says one customer alone cancelled an order for more than 250 units due to the economy.
He says this is the worst time for the truck manufacturing market in more than 30 years and adds Navistar plans layoffs at other plants across the country as well.
