A teenager struck and killed by a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia has been identified as 17-year-old Asia Leeshawn Ferguson of Springfield, South Carolina.

Cobb County police say preliminary information indicates that the victim and a male companion climbed over a perimeter fence from a parking lot Saturday and then climbed a second fence surrounding the roller coaster.

The teen was struck and killed by the roller coaster "while it was in operation," according to the park's news release.

Authorities say neither the victim's companion nor anyone aboard the roller coaster was injured. Pierce says detectives believe the victim and his companion had left the park earlier in the day, then returned.

Both were members of a church group visiting from South Carolina.
