Yearlong school schedules in Arkansas

Dr. Bronwyn Macfarland, UALR professor of Education, Arkansas Associate educational administrator Dr. Richard Abernathy and Joe David Rice, Arkansas tourism director join Craig in a roundtable discussion about yearlong education in Arkansas.

Educators are terming the summer in between school years the "summer learning loss" or "summer slide" where kids fall behind on learning. Researchers at Duke University found on average, students lose a month of progress in math skills; students from lower-income families could lose as much as three months in reading comprehension.

This is an issue because other nations around the world have students that go to school year-round; students that will compete one day against American students. Click on the video link for more.
