A small-town florist in central Illinois has been fielding hundreds of calls a day from people asking about cash for clunkers after General Motors began advertising a toll-free number.
The GM number is nearly identical to the shop's number, only the prefixes are different. GM's is 877 and the shop's is 800.
The owner of Flower Corner in Clinton, Ill., says she's getting around 150 calls a day. Judy Van Fossan says it's become a major nuisance and threatens to damage her business because regular customers can't get through.
Many callers appear confused. Even when they're told they've reached a florist, Van Fossan says some still ask about clunkers.
