The votes Tuesday bring to six the number of charter plans rejected by the board this week. The board has approved only a plan to expand the Knowledge is Power Program in Blytheville.

Those turned Tuesday include proposed charter schools in Little Rock, McNeil and Gillett. On Monday the board denied charter applications for schools in Fayetteville, Springdale and West Memphis.

Board Chairman Naccaman Williams of Springdale said the board needs to see a better quality of applications for charter schools.

Arkansas now has 18 open-enrollment charter schools.
