UCA Holds Campus Event To Combat ID Theft

 Robert Bell     2 years ago
Recognizing that many college students rarely balance their checkbooks or reconcile their credit card receipts, an accounting society at the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday brought shredders to campus to help combat identity theft.

UCA's Beta Alpha Psi chapter says college students make up 31 percent of the nation's identity-theft victims each year. It says half of all college students receive credit card applications weekly and that many are tossed out without being shredded.

Some colleges also post grades by Social Security number, another possible source for fraud, the accounting society said.

The company that provided the shredders, ShredSmart of Little Rock, said documents shredded would be recycled by a sister company, Goldman Recycling.
