FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFSM) - Police are investigating a shooting that happened at The Greens in Fayetteville early Sunday morning.

They say one person is dead after allegedly breaking into an apartment.

Fayetteville police say that a man crawled through a window at the Green Apartments, and was confronted by the homeowner who was armed with a handgun.

The homeowner asked him to leave and he did, but a few minutes later the intruder went back through the same window and the homeowner shot him.

Police say the intruder lived in the same apartment complex and was possibly trying to get into the wrong apartment.

Eyewitnesses tell our affliate KFSM that the man who was shot was a regular at a nearby bar.

They say he has a history of losing his keys after drinking, so he would often leave his window open at his apartment to climb into his house.

"Well if it was a case of self-defense then yes, he would have a right to shoot him, but I think to shoot somebody you know, I think it'd have to be a necessary means," said one neighbor.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim or suspect.
