CANONSBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- It's one of the oldest and largest candy factories in the Pittsburgh region, but early Friday morning flames tore through this legendary building.
That shock greeted Bill and Jamie Sarris, owners of Sarris Candies, as they learned their landmark candy store was on fire Friday morning.
The fire had started shortly before 7 a.m. with only a few employees in the store. Thankfully, damage from the fire was not as bad as initially feared with most of the damage contained to a packaging area inside.
Firefighters were reportedly slipping on melted chocolate while battling the flames. Sarris says he thinks the ice cream parlor did suffer some damage but is optimistic about re-opening as soon as possible.
