UNDATED (CNN) -- The federal government wants to make it easier for you to learn about safety recalls. So now, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is offering a free app to let you know about the safety of products you're using or are thinking about buying.

Using the app, all you have to do is type in the item's name into your phone.

The app will then tell you if the product has been recalled for safety reasons.

You can also see photos of the item and find out what you can do with any recalled items in your home.

The app also lets you know about recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the FDA and Agriculture Department.
