New York, NY (CNN) - In the next few weeks, all Facebook users will have to start using its new Timeline feature that was announced last year.
While some people have already adopted it, there are some tips and tricks for getting the most out of this new formatting for your Facebook profile.
The first major difference to a Timeline profile is the large cover photo at the top of the page.
By hovering your mouse cursor over the space, you can easily change the picture: choose from photos in existing Facebook albums or upload a new one.
Next, you'll want to organize your page.
Below the cover photo, you'll find all of your profile's information that was in a left hand column now clustered into different categories or apps: friends, education, relationship status, photos, et cetera.
By clicking each app, you can adjust the privacy setting for who sees what and for how you want those apps ordered or even shown at all.
Now that the top of your page is arranged, it's time to dig into the actual timeline.
The idea is that all of your status updates and posts will now be arranged chronologically.
And since your timeline goes back to your birth, you can fill in any blanks by posting old photos or adding events.
Again, each item on the timeline is customizable for privacy and which of your friends can view it.
Hopefully using Timeline as your actual profile will soon become second nature...and perhaps even useful for recording your life.
