DERMOTT, Ark. (KTHV) -- The search continues for two 18-year-old males who escaped from the Dermott Juvenile Correctional Facility on Monday night.
The two went into the facility when they were minors and that why this is being handled as though they are underage. Therefore, DHS is not releasing their identities.
They escaped Monday around 9 p.m..
Officials said it appears the teens slipped out through a small gap between the gate and the fence.
DHS had already requested that be fixed before the escape. But it is an area the teens are not intended to have access to. It is unclear at this point how they got to that area.
An investigation is underway.
As police search, Amy Webb with the Arkansas Department of Human Services speaks about the case.
"In the juvenile justice system, all of that information is private because that system is more about rehabilitating the youth so that they can go back into the community and become productive members of the community. That's why the laws prohibit us from releasing information. But at the same time we understand that the community may have concerns and I would like to reassure them that we are working diligently to find these young men and we think we will do that," Webb said.
There are two living pods at the facility, one for youth sex offenders who require treatment and one for so called "high risk" males.
Webb added that she was not given any "indication" the two are dangerous, but still urges caution to those in the Dermott area.
