EROS, Ark. (AP) - Leaders in the Lead Hill School District will ask the state Board of Education to annex their school into the Ozark Mountain School District.
The school board is seeking the annexation because the district's population fell below 350 students, the state-mandated minimum. This week, the Ozark Mountain School Board also signed off on the plan.
The Harrison Daily Times reports (http://is.gd/P7HvA0) that Lead Hill officials approached Ozark Mountain because the two districts are contiguous. However, officials say that the three campuses in the Ozark Mountain district are so far from Lead Hill that it's unlikely the Lead Hill campus would close under the proposal.
Ozark Mountain currently has campuses in Marion, Newton and Searcy counties. If Lead Hill joins the district, it will also stretch into Boone County.
