A book entitled, "The Prairie County Flood Book of 2011," will document the worst flood in the area since 1927.
"First thing, you've got to run down all the pictures and that's been a bit of a challenge for months," said Kelly Williams of Bisco.
The Prairie County Flood Book's Committee is made up of nine residents, including Williams and Vickie Barnes from Des Arc.
The authors say the pictures document everything from early flood stages to clean-up.
"We have that in the book also, [and] the remodeling and reconstructions that have been done. So there are pictures in there of that as well living in FEMA trailers, trying to repair their homes," Barnes added.
Some residents are still picking up the pieces from the May 2011 floods, not only in Des Arc, but throughout all of Prairie County.
The new book will not only record the flood's history but will help out its victims.
"It is a specific fund. It is called the "Prairie County Flood of 2011 Relief Fund," set up through Farmers and Merchants Bank in Des Arc."
Williams discusses the amount of floodwater that came on Highway 70, a portion of the highway which runs along the levee.
"In a period of about 24 to 36 hours, there were about 25, 26 inches that accumulated right there...the initial place that we started sandbagging within four days was totally under water. We had to move closer to town to sandbag," Williams said.
It's something that book will convey, while giving back to the same community.
"This has been a complete volunteer effort. Nobody has made anything out of this. We've dedicated a lot of time and effort," Barnes added.
If you would like more information, the committee will be at the rice festival in Hazen on Saturday, October 29th, taking orders and will have some of the sample pages.
