LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Arkansas Business Publisher, Jeff Hankins, stopped by the studio today to dig into a new FDIC report that shows Arkansas bank deposits as stable.
It has been a volatile economy for banks nationwide. Arkansas Business published a list of the largest banks in Arkansas, and according to the results, there's hardly any change between this year and last year.
The same 10 banks that comprised the largest in the state in 2010 are the same in 2011. Arvest Bank, headquartered in Bentonville, remains the leader with more than $5.5 billion in deposits. Arvest managed to grow its deposits by 15 percent over the year, despite cutting three Arkansas branches.
The only change in the top 10 came from Liberty Bank in Jonesboro. They moved up to number 5, trading places this year with Bancorp South.
Also, statewide deposits inched up just 2.2 percent from July 1 of last year to June 30 of this year, which is a small growth. South Dakota, however, suffered a 21 percent slide in deposits, while Nevada saw a 41 percent increase.
Among the largest banks in Arkansas, only First Security Bank of Searcy grew its deposits faster than last year. It grew 19.6 percent.
