LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- When we think of Christmas we think of what? The Poinsettia Plant!

Why? Because it's been around for years. Poinsettias are great and they are also easy to grow. But if you want to make these babies last until the end of December here are a few things you need to do.

Number one - LIGHT. They love lots of bright light. Now that does not mean it has to be direct light - sun rays - but it can be an indirect area. For example we have these in the window in the east side of the house. They get morning sun but they get afternoon shade. But it's still a nice bright area.

Number two - watch out for the water. Poinsettias hate to be wet and they hate to sit in water. So if you leave the sleeves on these guys - and you water them - you know how the sleeves fill up with water - well you want to go ahead and empty that out and therefore they won't be sitting in water. Then they are not going to defoliate - which means they are not going to go ahead and lose their leaves.

Now another thing you need to keep aware about Poinsettias is they also like to be in areas where they don't have a lot of dry heat. If you put them near a dry heat vent, something like that - or by a fireplace - be aware that they can go ahead and burn and also defoliate.

Now remember Poinsettias are also grown to be temporary plants. Meaning they are also grown to last a couple of weeks inside so if they defoliate and start to not look to good around mid December they are cheap enough so that you can go ahead and replace them and put new ones in.

Make sure your poinsettias look fresh and you will have a beautiful Christmas look.
