LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - In Today's Home, we're talking about perennials. Here's what Chris Olsen, our home and garden expert, had to say:

"It's now almost the end of October and when we think of fall we think most of our perennials look rather tired. Believe it or not, there are so many different varieties of fall Perennials that thrive and bloom in the fall time. So, when your spring and summer perennials are looking a little bit tired, go ahead and plant these.

For example, here is one of my favorites. It's the Toad Lily. It grows in semi shade to almost dark shade. It blooms right now and it almost looks like an orchid. That's what I love about it.

Then there is Salvias. So many different types of Salvias thrive with the cooler nights. So you want to do the Salvia Craig-eye for example. This one is red [and] also comes in a Fuchsia color, a blue and a purple. So, any color you like it basically comes in.

Then don't forget about Celosia's. Mine right here is called Pink Flamingo. It's seeded itself from last year. I love it. It's aggressive and I like aggressive plants. I would rather weed something out then try and get something to grow, so don't be intimidated by it or afraid by it.

And then don't forget things like the Pineapple Sage. This one is wonderful because this is the lime green. Look at this Cardinal Red flower in contrast to its lime green foliage.

Then even Corylus plants thrive in the fall time before you have that frost they will even bloom for you.

So let them bloom. Let them seed. Then [you'll] have them coming up throughout the garden next year. So don't be intimidated about perennials. They are easy to grow and there are so many different varieties that thrive and look their best in the fall time."
